The 2023 La Vizcaína Las Gundiñas has a more herbaceous nose, from old vines that might have 5% of white grapes. It's a wet year in a wet place, a vineyard that retains very well the water in drier years. It has a different expression that seems to transcend the place and vintage (Raúl Pérez compared it with the 2013), and it's more aromatic. I still think this plot behaves better in drier years...

Aromas recall dried leaves, herbs and red fruit. Ripe, with slight grip from stems, it highlights pomegranate and dark fruit flavors. It is technical, taut and expressive, with slight malic acidity.

The 2023 Ultreia Saint Jacques has a lifted nose. In the rainy 2023, they selected from the many plots in different lieux-dits of Valtuille, which this year included El Val and El Cepón in Villafranca, mostly from very old vines, with 50% of the grapes purchased from growers. It fermented mostly with full clusters and had a long maceration and matured in used barrels. It has contained ripeness and less than 13% alcohol...
