Rhône

In Zwitserland ontspringende en door het oosten van Frankrijk stromende rivier die zijn naam verleent aan het beroemde wijngebied Vallée du Rhône. Dit bestaat uit een vrij klein noordelijk deel tussen Vienne en Valence, en een groot zuidelijk deel tussen Montélimar en Avignon. Er worden voornamelijk rode wijnen gemaakt. In het noorden zijn die van syrah; in het zuiden zijn het blends met een hoofdrol voor grenache. Wit komt onder meer van marsanne, roussanne en viognier. De appellation voor het hele gebied is Côtes du Rhône. Individuele cru’s zijn onder andere Côte Rôtie, Condrieu en Hermitage in het noorden en Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas en Vacqueyras in het zuiden.
