The Stefano Accordini 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Acinatico is bold and ripe with a hint of old leather and horse saddle that makes a brief prelude before the wine opens onto a wider window of Amarone aromas such as pressed blackberry, plum, spice and tarry earth. The blend is 75% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara that sees 120 days of appassimento. The focus and the sharpness of the vintage comes through, and those leathery aromas we saw at the beginning take a back seat to the more powerful dried fruit aromas that are the clear protagonist here.

Accordini is één van de grote namen gevestigd in het klassieke heuvelachtige gebied van Valpolicella. De officiële Valpolicella wijn, gemaakt van de Corvina, Corvinone en Rondinella druivenrassen, zijn een echte klassieker. Het gelijknamige gebied is door de jaren heen uitgebreid in oppervlakte. De beste wijngaarden vind je in het heuvelachtige gebied, daar waar de grote verschillen tussen dag en nacht temperaturen de zuren zo mooi behouden. Dit gebied noemen we het ‘classico’ of wel het originele gebied. Hier staan ze bekend om de amarone wijnen gemaakt via de ‘appassimento’ methode met ingedroogde druiven.

De ingedroogde druiven zorgen voor extra concentratie van smaak, geur en textuur. Het is een tijdrovend proces wat extreem intense wijnen oplevert. De jonge wijn moet na de alcoholische vergisting nog twee jaar in kleine eikenhouten fusten en daarna nog acht maanden in de fles doorrijpen. Pas dan mag de prestige titel Amarone della Valpolicella op het etiket prijken. Deze wijnstijl valt in de meest krachtige en complexe categorie ter wereld.

Proefnotitie

Wijn met een dieprode kleur en wat bruine nuances. In de geur veel gekonfijt fruit, krenten en pruimen. De smaak zet zeer geconcentreerd en zacht in en ontwikkelt zich aromatisch, met fijne, uitgerijpte tannine.

Drinken bij

Intense en complexe wijn. In feite het best te genieten na de maaltijd, eventueel met een fijne, gerijpte kaas.

Houdbaarheid

Op dronk na enkele jaren flesrijping en houdbaar tot minstens tien jaar na de oogstdatum.
